Health Reimbursement Arrangement

Section 125 (Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts)

A Flexible Spending Account is a benefit that allows an employee to use tax-free income to pay for certain kinds of health care and dependent care expenses. In brief, the employer withholds funds for this benefit from the employee's income and allocates them to the Flexible Spending Account. This money is not subjected to federal income taxes, FICA, and, in most states is also exempt from state income tax. These funds are then used to cover eligible expenses for dependent care and out-of-pocket health care cost.
